A Berserk of Gluttony anime TV show is reportedly in the works.

On October 17, 2022, reliable anime news leaker SPANKU (@spanku_u) revealed that action, fantasy author Isshiki Ichika and illustrator fame’s Boushoku no Berserk: Ore Dake Level to Iu Gainen wo Toppa Suru light novel series is inspiring an anime adaptation!

What is the plot of Berserk of Gluttony?

The story is set in a medieval sword-and-sorcery world where there are two kinds of people – those who have been blessed having received a special power granted by god, and those who have been cursed to be without power. The ones granted a power skill end up battling monsters to gain levels and become successful. Those without a proper skill end up “losers”.

The story centers on a young man named Fate Graphite, who is one of the “forsaken”. The skill Fate was granted is called Gluttony, but it’s more of a curse than a skill that simply leaves him feeling ever starving, never sated. Fate has been looked down upon his entire life. Even though Fate manages to get a noble job as a Gatekeeper the other Holy Knights bully Fate. But there is one Holy Knight, who stands up for him. Her name is Roxy Heart.

Roxy warns the Holy Knights, who were bullying Fate, that their behavior is unbefitting of a Holy Knight, and tells Fate to let her know if they’re ever bothering him again. However, Fate doesn’t want the beautiful, golden-haired Roxy to get involved in his business because it would earn her the resentment of the other Holy Knights, especially from the conniving Brerick Lafal, and that might put her in danger.

When Fate goes to a tavern to eat his usual fare of bread and soup, the tavern keeper warns him that he should eat meat or he’ll wind up like his predecessor. Too much hard work and endless problems will lead to Fate’s “bad end”. Fate knows this, but he believes he’s been born powerless and thus accepts his fate of dying from overwork as being inevitable.

One night, Fate witnesses a group of bandits climbing over the wall into the city from a spot that isn’t visible from the front gate. Fate goes to tell Roxy about the bandits and she rushes off to intercept them while leaving Fate in charge of the front gate. However, one wounded bandit escapes Roxy and tries to make it past the front gate where he encounters Fate.

Fate manages to kill the bandit and suddenly his Gluttony skill is activated and a new skill is added to Fate’s status – mental appraisal. At first Fate doesn’t understand what happened, but he later realizes that when he kills someone he can devour their skills and feed his insatiable appetite. But is he only devouring their strength or is he consuming their very soul?

How many lives will Fate have to take before his skill Gluttony is truly satisfied? What will become of Fate now that he’s gone from being completely powerless to being overpowered? We’ll have to wait until the anime adaptation to find out!

Berserk of Gluttony by Isshiki Ichika and fame has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, and seven volumes have been released.

Berserk of Gluttony’s light novel series inspired a manga adaptation featuring illustrations by Daisuke Takino. The manga has also been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, and six volumes have been released. Berserk of Gluttony volume 7 will be released on December 27, 2022.
